The Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren is a powerful supercar that was produced by both Mclaren and DaimlerChrysler. While the SLR is often placed under the category of a supercar, it is more often compared to the Enzo Ferrari or Porsche Carrera, vehicles which fall under the exotic sports car market. However, there are still some who say that the SLR is more comparable to the Ferrari 599 GTB. It should be noted that one of the goals of the companies in producing the SLR was to give it both GT and supercar attributes. While the SLR is not faster than the Bugatti Veyron in terms of raw speed, it is the fastest car in the world that uses an automatic transmission.
The word SLR stands for "super light racing." This vehicle is incredibly expensive, and can only be purchased by less than 5% of the total population. Its introductory price starts at $450,000, making it one of the most expensive cars on the planet. A new variation of the SLR was introduced in 2006, and it was called the Mercedes Benz SLR 722 Edition. The
number 722 is used to honor the victory of Denis Jenkinson and Stirling Moss at the Mille Miglia race. Some of the new additions that have been added to this car include an advanced suspension, a stronger damper configuration, and light weight alloy wheels that are 19 inches.
As you would expect, the engine in the SLR is extremely powerful. It uses a supercharged 5.5 L engine that is dry sumped. The total torque produced by the engine can be as high as 5000 revolutions per minute. The engineers studied the SL-55 AMG engine and made a number of modifications to it, increasing the size of the fuel pump. They also added a cooling system that was much larger. Each cylinder in the SLR comes with three valves, and this is uncanny among most supercars today, which have 4 valves for each cylinder. One thing that is certain is that the SLR is extremely fast, and extremely powerful.
